Lino printed tee shirts

Decided to try my hand with a couple of my newer images on tee shirts.

I learned some valuable lessons. A couple worked OK, one was an epic failure.

I now know I need to ink heavier than I thought to print on cloth. Paper can work with very thin coating of ink but not cotton cloth.

The epic failure was a result of not enough ink, uneven pressure and also a tee shirt that was not a good weave. The shirt was of a type made to breathe and not make you sweat so the weave is very loose and it did not take the ink well. You’ll easily see which one it was in the pics.

It was a fun experiment, I want to do shirts especially if I do a larger format lino. This was great practice and I’ll have some unique shirts to wear around.

studio

The work area. Actually my wife’s jewelry studio but she let me use her large table to work on since its really humid and gross outside.

Pocket Peepers. These cute guys peek out of the pocket. I had an idea for a segmented lino to reposition - I really need to mount the pieces. It's hard to work with and get good ink on. But they're fun.

Mountains of Madness. The image itself is actually square and even on the shirt. I took the photo with shirt on a hanger and it is a bit drapey and uneven in the image. Not the print though, it's fine.

A little more flattened but I still can't manage to make the shirt cooperate for photos so it still looks skewed. Best photo I'm going to get...

My epic fail. The weave of the shirt killed me. I tried re-inking and doing it again and actually managed to register it well but there was no fix for this shirt. Oh well live and learn.
