Murder Twitch

I came up with a great name for a drink while camping a few years ago – Murder Twitch. My campmates threw down the gauntlet and challenged me to make it.

Well it took a while but I actually have something that I like that fits the bill. Now, it’s not for everyone as it has a bitter/sour base taste offset with a tiny bit of sweetness but if you like margaritas, long island iced teas or other drinks with a sour or bitter tone you might like it.

To fit the name it HAD to be blood red and make your taste buds twitch. So here’s the recipe. I use my standard part notation, this can be shots/ounces/cups/quarts or whatever scale you’re making it. Try to use the highest quality alcohols you like when choosing ingredients.

Murder Twitch cocktail

Murder Twitch cocktail

  • 1 part tequila – I used Hornitos.
  • 1.5 part Domaine de Canton Ginger liqueur
  • 1/4 part gin – I used Tanqueray.
  • 4 parts Pom wonderful cherry/pomegranate juice. *
  • 1 dash Peychaud’s aromatic cocktail bitters.**
  • Optional juice. Pomegranate is rather astringent (drying) if it’s too astringent for you try the mix with just cherry juice.
  • Alternate bitters: Try Reagan’s orange bitters or if you wish, omit bitters entirely.

Alternative mix

  • 1 part tequila
  • 1.5 part Domaine de Canton Ginger liqueur
  • 1/4 part gin
  • 1 part grenadine.
