Southern Belle Skeleton linocut

Starting a new effort. Based on the logo of my wife’s company: Macabre Mercantile, it’s a skeleton with a ladies sun hat and a string of pearls. She’s a lovely southern belle named Mercy Macabre. Just doing her head shot. This will post will probably just show the concept, finished cut and print rather than the entire process.

Concept: her hat will be printed with the details cut in to not receive ink. The skull will only have the hollows and shadows inked to be a reverse of the hat. The pearls will probably be inked with minor highlights cut to give them dimension. I’ll probably play with the shadowing as I actually begin to carve. I just drew in some random lines to give me an idea of where I need it.

There’s also a few related linocuts that I made for my wife’s business, Macabre Mercantile, using this skeleton and then a carved name logo. Here’s how those came out.
